The Australian skipper has claimed over 300 dismissals in 71 appearances with an average of 22.10.
The Australian chair of selectors the selector has declared that skipper Cummins will have a crucial role in the upcoming Ashes series.
There were concerns that the veteran bowler might miss the series due to a stress fracture in his back that was still troubling him.
Initial reports from team management suggested no definitive call had been made regarding his involvement, with the five-Test series scheduled to begin on the 21st of November in Perth.
The selector shared that Cummins is "building up" and remained hopeful about his chances of being involved.
"We know that time is getting short and various factors involved, not just his injury, but additional elements," he commented.
"The outlook is good. [We are] really confident that he's going to play a key capacity. Hopefully starting in Perth. Otherwise, we'll reassess."
Cummins was ruled out the ODI and T20 games against New Zealand and India in the previous weeks after examinations confirmed a lumbar bone stress.
He has a history of back injuries, with recurrences in 2012-13, 2013-14 and 2015-16 causing him to miss several home seasons in four years.
The bowler mentioned he would be ""aggressive" and "take risks" in his comeback strategy to secure his spot for the contest.
The selector indicated that it was unclear if Cummins had begun bowling as part of his comeback but admitted it was "pressing" for him to be fit for the opener.
Should Cummins not be fit, former captain Steve Smith will assume leadership.
Versatile player Green was excluded lately from Australia's squad for their ODI contests against India as a preventive step because of an abdominal issue.
The selector characterized it as a "minor" injury and stated that he's scheduled to appear in the Sheffield Shield, so will be "in a good place to resume bowling."
"Considerable effort has gone into creating the schedule for him to take part for the first Test as an batting and bowling option," the selector detailed.
"He was only going to play the first two ODIs anyway. The way he swings the willow in shorter formats, even if it just sets him back for another day, we opted to approach this more conservatively."
